James P Crutcher Jr., MD, is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Physician Associates in Seattle, Washington. He provides a personalized approach to orthopedic care by working closely with all of his patients to understand their goals.
Dr. Crutcher specializes in joint replacement surgery. These surgeries include total hip and knee replacements, partial knee replacements, robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery, revision joint replacement surgery, and knee arthroscopy. In his practice, Dr. Crutcher uses minimally invasive surgical techniques and advanced biomaterials to restore quality of life for patients who have arthritic conditions of the hip and knee. Some patients may be candidates for outpatient joint replacement surgery. He performs more than 450 hip and knee replacements each year.
Dr. Crutcher completed his undergraduate degree at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. After medical school, Dr. Crutcher completed his residency at the University of Washington Department of Orthopedics. He pursued fellowship training in joint replacement surgery at the Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Crutcher returned to his native Washington State once he completed his medical training. He has been in practice at Orthopedic Physician Associates in Seattle for over 29 years.
From 2004-2008, he served as the chief of the Department of Orthopedics at Seattle’s Swedish Medical Center. As chief, Dr. Crutcher was instrumental in developing the Swedish Orthopedic Institute, the largest dedicated orthopedic facility in the Northwest United States. He currently serves as the medical director of the Swedish Orthopedic Institute.
Dr. Crutcher is committed to bringing leading technology to his practice to provide the best possible outcomes for his patients. In 2010, he championed the introduction of robotic arm assisted surgery for partial knee replacements, and now uses this technology for total knee and hip technology as well. He is actively involved in teaching other surgeons, and has lectured nationally and internationally on advanced surgical techniques.
In his free time, Dr Crutcher enjoys taking advantage of all of the outdoor activities that the Northwest has to offer, including hiking, skiing, and cycling.
